our beliefs...
trinity lutheran church is a christian congregation of over 5000 baptized members who believe in jesus christ and, as his disciples, seek to live out the reality of his forgiveness with each other and the world. we are a community of people where god's forgiveness in christ is treasured, taught, given, and shared.
our teaching centers in the forgiveness offered to all people in jesus' name and given to us because of his perfect life and his death on the cross for our sins. we teach what the bible teaches--that we are forgiven by god's grace his undeserved love through faith in jesus christ. we believe in the triune god as revealed in the bible and expressed in the three ecumenical creeds of the church apostles', nicene, and athanasian. we also believe that the lutheran confessions as found in the book of concord are a true explanation of what the bible teaches. for a more in-depth look at what we believe, visit the lutheran church-missouri synod's beliefs and practices or frequently asked questions web pages.
while the ministry of trinity lutheran church is centered in roselle, illinois, trinity also directly supports mission work on six continents.
our vision...
trinity lutheran church will be a congregation that is actively nurturing people in the christian faith while it reaches out to a world lost without faith in christ jesus.
we will increase our labor and emphasis on reaching the lost world at our doorsteps, winning roselle and its surrounding communities for jesus christ. because our community is changing, we will continue to emphasize ministry to ethnic minorities in our community, working to share with them a true life in christ and to invite them to join our family of faith. as a part of reaching our community for christ, we will establish a mission congregation to the west between roselle and elgin within five years.
we will grow in the depth of our worship and study of god's will and purposes for our lives. our worship and adult education programs and activities will both train members in confessional, lutheran doctrine and funnel them to activities which allow them to act out their christian faith.
we will mentor members in the faith, using an emphasis on small group ministry to assimilate new people into the congregation while helping all members to recognize their relationship with christ through the congregation and remain active in their worship, bible study, service, and support activities throughout their years of membership.
because god has called us to be good stewards of his gifts, we will develop a stronger lay-training emphasis, so that each member may utilize their spiritual gifts for the work and health of the body of christ. together with this emphasis, our staff will be well-trained and measured with a focus on their ability to identify and utilize the gifts and leaders that god has placed in this congregation. as part of this responsibility, we will raise up competent and confident individuals to be trained as full-time church workers.
we see as integral to our lives as christians a heart for national and international mission work, and, together with the ablaze emphasis of the lcms, will develop ourselves into a local and national training site for short term mission work in the u.s. and abroad.
while not ignoring our other ministries, we will develop a more focused youth and young adult program. our ministry will continue to support and expand its ministry to children in the preschool through eighth grade years. at the same time we will emphasize the on-going and growing opportunities for the christian as we guide high school youth to experience and competency in leading worship and leading others to christ. to support this work, trinity will provide expanded and dedicated youth facilities with an emphasis on serving the needs of both campuses of lake park high school. in addition, we will support the establishing of a lutheran high school in the western suburbs.
our programs, staff and facilities will support a growing family ministry. we see ourselves as particularly suited to support families in transition and crisis. while that will still show itself in our work feeding the poor, supporting families that have experienced abuse, mentoring teenage parents, and caring for physical needs, a new and growing emphasis will be support for marriages and a divorce recovery ministry. to accomplish this goal, we see ourselves modeling the love of jesus for the family no matter in what condition they present themselves to us. while accepting them for what they are, we will through training and example show families how they can fulfill the vision god has for them.
our increasing fellowship opportunities will support the family life-style god announces in his word. in order to lead young adults and young families to life-long commitment to their spouses, their children and their god, we will develop training and social activities which model faithful, functioning families.
to accomplish this, all of our ministries will be "technologically savvy," utilizing current computer and technology advances to communicate more clearly the goals of our congregation with our members and reach out to our community with the most cost-effective means possible. in particular, we will increase our utilization of television broadcasts and web-based ministry and communication opportunities.
we see ourselves as an active force for change in our community. we will not shy away from opportunities to be involved in the political process, for by doing so, we can influence the root causes of community life issues.
to keep ourselves honest to our vision, we will annually evaluate our ministry, prune ministries so we can be more fruitful, and plant new programs in our midst. we will encourage one another to use our size and strength to full advantage, seeking to do god's work now and to endow the future work god calls us to with our best efforts to be fiscally sound today and fund our future work together with the gifts of the saints gone to heaven. in all things we will prize loving action which leads people to a life of forgiveness in jesus.
